NGF: Mimiko Challenges Amaechi, Proof That i Voted
Dr Olusegun Mimiko who is the Vice Chairman of the Jonah Jang faction of the Nigerian Governors
Forum, NGF, Wednesday, challenged his Rivers State
counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi to substantiate his claim that he (Mimiko)
voted at the disputed election by producing the video evidence.
The Ondo State governor in a statement in Akure was reacting to Amaechi’s claim that he (Mimiko) voted at the controversial election which Governor Amaechi was said to have won.
Mimiko said: “Amaechi should not hide under religion to cover up his anti-democratic dispositions. Nothing stops Governor Amaechi from proving to the world that I voted by using the same video he has been using to tell the public that there was an election.
“If Amaechi is saying I voted at the election, I think he should prove it to the whole world that I did. I sincerely believe that a process must have led to the declaration of result contained in their few minutes video clip. That later part can’t come in isolation. I challenge him to show the entire proceedings, including where I voted”.
According to him, “Amaechi should tell the world whether or not he presided over his own election despite cries that he should step aside for an interim chairman to preside over the same election as it is the practice in any democratic setting
“He should also tell the world whether or not he was the sole provider of ballot papers and ballot box used for the charade where he was also a contestant.
“He should tell the world why he insisted he must contest for another term even when he knew it negates the norm in the Forum.”

FIFA TO TEST MIKEL OBI AND ODUAMADI FOR DOPING
Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) picked Super
Eagles duo of John Mikel Obi of Chelsea FC and Nnamdi Oduamadi of Varese FC for doping test after
Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Kenya’s Harambee Stars at the Kasarani
Stadium.
The duo were instrumental to the team’s victory over the boastful Harambee Stars who played behind a full capacity stadium in Kasarani.
Varese winger, Nnamdi Oduamadi particularly was a thorn in the flesh of the Stars defence and was clear on goal at the restart but his shot from inside the box when one-on-one with goalkeeper Ochieng was blocked to safety.
CSKA Moscow striker, Ahmed Musa scored an 81st minute goal, to give the Super Eagles of Nigeria a 1-0 victory over the boastful Kenyans.
With this result, the African champions now have eight points from four matches to lead Group F ahead of Malawi, who are on six points after they were held to a goalless draw in Blantyre also on Wednesday by third-placed Namibia.
Nigeria’s next opponent in the World Cup qualifier will be against Namibia next Wednesday, while Malawi host Kenya in continuation of the qualifying tournament.

US issues fresh travel alert on NIGERIA
The
United States has issued fresh travel alert on Nigeria, warning its
citizens not to travel to North and nine other states in South.
The US predicated the alert on the
emergency rule in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states, saying extremists
could expand their operations beyond the three states to other parts of
the country.
President Goodluck Jonathan had on May 14,
declared emergency rule in the three states to restore order following
the violence orchestrated by members of Boko Haram.
The travel warning came just as the US State Department placed $7m bounty on the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau.
It warned that the latest alert
superseded earlier one saying, “It replaces the travel warning for
Nigeria dated December 21, 2012.’’
The advice read, “The Department of
State warns US citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends
that they avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states because
of the proclamation on May 14, 2013, by the government of Nigeria.
“Based on safety and security risk
assessments, the Embassy maintains restrictions for travel by US
officials to all northern Nigerian states (in addition to those listed
above); officials must receive advance clearance by the US Mission for
any travel deemed as mission-essential. US citizens should be aware that
extremists could expand their operations beyond northern Nigeria to the
country’s middle and southern states.”
The alert listed other states as Abia,
Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna,
Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, and Zamfara citing
kidnappings, robberies, and other armed attacks for the travel alert.

ACN NATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT(SOUTH EAST) KILLED BY KIDNAPPERS IN AGBOR
The National Vice President of the ACN (South East) and who incidentally was the first Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chudi Nwike, who was kidnapped on the 19th of March has been murdered by his kidnappers.
Dr Nwike's corpse was found on Monday April 8th in the middle of the road leading to Alizomor community in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, after the family had paid the N5m ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
The late ACN chieftain served as deputy governor between 1991 and 1993, under former governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

With a heart full of pain and sorrow, Action Congress of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, in consultation with the Nwike Family of Azu Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State announces the death/murder of Dr ChuddyNwike, Ibolo Ogbunike, First Deputy Governor of Anambra State and National Vice President of the Action Congress of Nigeria (South East).
Dr Nwike’s body has been identified by Our State Chairman, Chief Amaechi Obidike, our State Secretary, Barr Emeka Ibe and his brother Dr Bufo Nwike at Agbor Police Station in Delta State.
Dr Nwike, who became Deputy Governor of Anambra State under Gov Chukwuemeka Ezeife in 1991, was abducted by gunmen on March 19, 2013 by suspected kidnappers.
According to the family, the suspected kidnappers made contact with his brother Dr Bufo Nwike shortly after with a ransom demand of N30 million equivalent, delivered in US Dollars. The younger Dr Nwike, negotiated the sum to N5 million which delivered to a location in Delta State through a courier on Friday April 05, 2013, after rejecting the offer for the wife or the brother to deliver the money.
But rather than release the ex-Deputy Governor, the kidnappers seized the money and the courier on April 05, 2013, cutting off all communication, until the body was found.
All efforts and all contacts made by our party to relevant authorities had not yielded any dividend and have surprisingly not even drawn any concern from quarters we took for granted.
We worked and prayed to see Dr Nwike return safe and alive to continue contributing as he has been doing to our party, but we have not. We toiled and moiled to see our South East National Vice Chairman, play his traditional fatherly role in the tasks immediately before us. But we are crest-fallen that Dr Nwike as gone the way of all mortals, though in a way we would have wished away.
We are tremendously ashamed of the circumstances of his death and wish we could now erase from history that a former Deputy Governor of a State in Nigeria died in this manner.
Our Leader Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige mourns, our committed party faithfuls weep and our overwhelming supporters wail, but Dr Nwike,Ibolo Ogbunike ,distinguished medical Doctor, calculative politician and quintessential statesman is no more.
Since the security agencies did not succeed in tracking downAnambra’s Deputy Governor in life, we urge them to rise and smash all obstacles on the way to unearthing the abductors and killers of ACN’s rare gem, an embodiment of peace and knowledge.
We urge them to leave no stone unturned and not be beaten by any decoy until the nation has the right answers to the nagging questions. For we may know who will it be next.

LIGHTNING STRIKES SS3 PUPIL DEAD ON EXAM DAY
The family of a Senior Secondary School 3(SS3)
female pupil of Muslim College Oworonsoki, Lagos, has been thrown into
mourning after lightning struck and killed 19-year-old Celestina
Farotide, who was about to start her final examination the same morning.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity because she was not permitted to talk to journalists, said the incident occurred on Monday.
She said, “We had finished with the
morning assembly, but some students were still coming in. Celestina had
prepared her desk in readiness for the West Africa Senior Secondary
Certificate Examination’s practical they were to have that morning.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that she later
went to buy the food she would eat and when she was returning to her
class in company with other students, tragedy struck.
The eyewitness said, “The lightning came in their direction and immediately three of the school girls fell down.
“Two of them rose up and ran and
Celestina rose up too. Then the lightening struck the second time, and
she (Celestine) fell finally on the floor and did not rise again.
‘She was immediately taken to the
teachers’ staff room, where a teacher was asked to take her to the
Gbagada General Hospital. It was there she was confirmed dead.”
The victim’s father was said to be in
shock and disbelief and had refused to show up to collect the corpse,
saying, “It cannot be my daughter”.
The aunt of the deceased, Christiana
Idowu, who described her as gentle, quiet and respectful said she saw
her corpse in the hospital after the family received an emergency call
from one of Celestina’s friends.
The principal of the school was said to
be away on a week-long conference in Makurdi when the incident happened
but authorities of the school contacted Celestina’s grandmother at New
Garage area of Lagos.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Education with her entourage were said to have visited the school on Tuesday morning.
The monarch of Oworonsoki land, Oba
Bashir Oloruntodupefun, said the gods were angry because Oworosoki land
had been desecrated by strangers and the government was taking over
ancestral lands and selling them to non-indigenes.
He said, “It’s a pity the girl died. The
circumstances surrounding her death are mysterious because the girl was
never sick. From what happened, we can all see the gods are making
demands.
“The shrines that should be used for
sacrifices have been swept away in water. And the land we have is being
sold by government officials to their friends and they send military men
to threaten us.
“Government needs to give us our land
back. The real Oworo is submerged in water We want them to help sand
fill those places taken over by water because many cultural heritage has
been lost. If this is done, evil will no longer occur.”
The Chairman of a community development association in the area, Chief Jelili Lawal, told PUNCH Metro that Celestina would be buried after necessary sacrifices and atonement had been made to appease the gods.

POWER GENERATION DROPS

The power generation report provided by
the Ministry of Power revealed that peak generation as of Saturday was
2,987.6 MW, while the peak demand forecast was 10,200MW. Energy
generation was put at 68,953.24 megawatts hours, while the actual energy
sent out was 67,360.24MWH.
This is considered by power industry
analysts as a huge break from the highest peak generation of 4,517 MW on
December 21, 2012 and 98,580MWH energy on December 19, 2012, one of the
highest ever sent out in the country
Explaining what led to the drastic fall, the
Minister stated that “a few days ago, precisely last week Friday,
Chevron shut down its gas plant for maintenance purposes which was to
take place between Friday and Saturday. And the technical crew in the
power sector knew about the shut down and this was in order to make sure
that damages are not done before losing the gas entirely.”
“From time to time there is going to be shut down
and it happened two times recently between Benin and Osogbo. If you
don’t shutdown these plants, in order to have a safe restarting process,
you are going to lose the equipment. Once routine maintenance is done,
the process of restarting the machines that were shutdown take some
time.”
“That is why between two and three days we lost
some 1112MW. That means Omotoso and Olorunsogo plants were forced to
shut down because there was no gas supply.

Don’t feel like hitting the gym? Grab your guy and head to the bedroom. A 30-minute romp in the sheets can burn upwards of 150 calories. That’s like running a mile on the treadmill!
It de-stresses you
We’re all stressed to the max—and all that worry releases the stress hormone cortisol. The problem with cortisol? Having too much of it in your bloodstream can lead to everything from high blood sugar to weight gain. When you get your freak on, it helps you relax, lowering the stress levels in your body.
It keeps you healthy
Regular sex with your guy can actually prevent cold, thanks to the hormone prolactin. This hormone has an important role in strengthening your immune system by increasing the production of T and B lymphocytes (aka immune cells). We’ll take that over chicken soup any day.
It helps you sleep
When you have sex, the cuddle hormone oxytocin is released. That increases your bond with your guy, but it also helps you sleep.
It’s good for your heart
The hormone testosterone is usually associated with big-muscled dudes, but our bodies make it, too. Sex helps increase the release of the hormone, which in turn improves your energy level and strengthens vital body parts, like your muscles, bones and heart.

EX-MILITANTS KILL 13 POLICEMEN IN BAYELSA
ANGERED that they had been perpetually shortchanged by their leaders,
former militants in the creek unleashed mayhem in the early hours of
Saturday, killing 13 policemen in Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw Local
Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The death of the policemen followed a threat to resume hostilities by midnight of Friday from the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) to the Federal Government over complaints that their leaders on the amnesty programme had consistently shortchanged them over funds released as their monthly emoluments.
The policemen, it was learnt, were killed at a burial ceremony by suspected former militants whose identities are yet to be known. They were said to have been shot severally and abandoned in the pool of their blood, a development that disrupted the burial programme. Out of fear of being hit by stray bullets, many of the villagers scampered into their houses, the community was thrown into panic.
Sunday Tribune’s check revealed that the trouble started when the former militants were agitating for their money, alleged to have been used by one of their leaders to organise the burial of his late father.
It was learnt that among the killed policemen were sergeants, one of whom was said to have been identified as Jack, and others in the rank and file. In the meantime, the killing of the policemen has caused panic among policemen posted to Southern Ijaw localities.
It was, however, learnt that the command’s B Operations Department had dispatched another team of policemen to the scene of the crime to recover the corpses of the slain policemen. Sunday Tribune’s findings showed that the fear precipitated by the killing of the policemen had spread to the state capital, Yenagoa.
Reacting, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Kingsley Omire, at a press briefing, confirmed the incident. He said 15 policemen were on official assignment before they were ambushed by the ex-militants. He, however, denied that 13 members were killed saying four policemen were rescued while 11 were still missing and that they were on top of the situation..

WESLEY SNIPES FREED FROM JAIL
Wesley Snipes is out of prison. TMZ
broke the story that the Federal Bureau of Prisons quietly released him
on the 2nd of April 2013. He’s not in the wind, though, but was transferred to the New York Community Corrections Office for home confinement until July 19th..
What a ride it’s been, starting in 2006. Mr. Snipes was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns in 2008. Sentenced to McKean Federal Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison in Pennsylvania, he reported December 9, 2010. He finished at the adjacent prison camp, a minimum security Club Fed as inmate number 43355-018.
During 1999 through 2001, Snipes avoided $7 million in taxes but I’ll bet he would have paid it willingly had he known what was coming.
Snipes was such a well-known figure and high earner—about $40 million from 1999 to 2004—that not paying taxes was hard to fathom. The big victory for Snipes was that he was acquitted of felony tax fraud.

JTF ON RED ALERT OVER MEND'S THREAT
Military formations in the Niger Delta have been placed on red alert
over threats by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta to
resume attacks on oil installations.
MEND’s spokesman, Gbomo Jomo, had in an
email to journalists on Wednesday said the militant group would resume a
series of attacks, codenamed "Hurricane Exodus" at midnight on Friday.
MEND said the attacks would be “a direct
repercussion of a forged threat letter contrived by the Nigerian and
South African governments purporting to have originated from MEND.
“This fake letter was used as evidence
against Henry Okah on whom a 13-year sentence was passed. We are now
determined to conjure this imaginary trumped-up threat into a painful
reality.”
Military commanders in the region
including the JTF’s Sector Two commander were said to have been summoned
for an emergency meeting in the formation’s headquarters in Yenagoa. Security has also been beefed up at strategic places, including notable oil installations in the Niger Delta.
www.myprinceg.blogspot.com observed that the
military had begun unusual vehicular patrol Port-harcourt, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital just as all
entrances to the capital city witnessed increased presence of security
operatives.
Security sources also said the Officer
Commanding the Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Johnson Olutoyin, had
ordered continuous patrol of the sea and waterways in the command’s
areas of responsibility.
There were unconfirmed reports that MEND
might strike in Yenago, to embarrass President Goodluck Jonathan or hit
strategic oil installations.
Most people were seen in relaxation spots, news stands and other public places discussing the threats.
The threat had also jolted Ijaw leaders and elders.
Commenting on the fresh threat, the
President of the Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, Mr. Ozobo Austin,
and the President of the National Council of Ijaw Activists, Alhaji
Yusuf Eregbene, urged MEND militants to sheath their swords.
They argued that there was no need to attack oil installations in the region.
The leaders, however, noted that it was
wrong for the Federal Government to have instigated the trial and
conviction of Okah in South Africa.
Ozobo said South Africa was not the
scene of Okah’s alleged crime, describing the action of the Nigerian
government as barbaric and unconstitutional.
He argued that there was no
international law backing the action of the government and insisted that
Okah’s conviction was politically motivated.
“That is why MEND sees it as another act
of injustice done to the people of the Niger Delta. MEND should
consider the consequences, as such attacks will inflict more pain on the
poor masses.
“We beg MEND to drop every threat and
follow due process in communicating their demands. MEND should allow the
prevailing peace to grow in the Niger Delta region.
‘’We appeal that Okah’s controversial
detention should not be used as an excuse to renew hostilities and
increase tension in the region.
“The Niger Delta people should endeavour
to avoid any thing that will make the country ungovernable, as we are
not ready to be drag to another era of bloodbath-they added.
‘’We equally use this opportunity to
appeal with the Federal Government to wade into the matter, to ensure a
soft landing for Henry Okah.”
